Muscle Pharm's Pre Workout:

ASSUALT

My most recent cycle of pre-workout was Muscle Pharm’s award winning “Best New Supplement of the Year” by Bodybuilding.com. I work at a Speed Training facility in Cherry Hill, NJ and one of my gym rat coworkers highly recommended it to me. I was very comfortable with my current regimen of Jack3d and Shotgun so, I was a little apprehensive to try Assault. After reading some reviews and looking at the price, I figured why not give a whirl.

Some interesting things about Assault is that it’s serving size is only half a scoop, which leads me to believe that they assume you will think that a whole scoop is a serving. I assume that their logic is that if people use more, they will buy more. Unfortunately, they couldn’t fool me. Interestingly enough, that half scoop of Assault made me feel and intense rush of a tingling sensation throughout my body and a overwhelming “Thor”-like power that I wasn’t prepared for.

My first time using Assault was on my Thursday chest session (it was delivered in the middle of the week via DPS Nutrition) and I was anxious to get started. For some background, my incline bench numbers usually revolve around three warm-up sets of 135, 135, and 185 and then I move on to 225 and up for my sets. That day, I was looking to use a 8, 6, 4, 2, 1 template and choosing my weights depending on how I felt. However, with my new found pre-workout, my struggle for a set of 8 with 225 on the incline bench was an effortless 10 rep explosion of a zero fatigue set.

I was elated.

Not only did I feel a great pump, tingly sensation, and the need to “assault” some douche-bag doing bicep curls in the mirror, I also had a steroid like strength that was like no other. Jack3d, eat your heart out. In comparison, pre-workouts like Jack3d and NO-Xplode didn’t make me feel stronger the way that Assault did, they more or less gave me focus and a drive that made me push harder. But I felt more powerful than ever, and before I knew it, I blew through my workout and felt amazing.

Effectiveness: A+

Otherwise, I found that Assault had good flavors and had an enjoyable taste unlike some other ones that could cause a skunk to gag. The only drawback is that I found the consistency to be a little thick whereas I feel it should be a bit smoother.

Taste: A-

Happily for such a popular and effective upcoming pre-workout, the cost was affordable. Prices at GNC and online range from $25-$35, you could go to the mall or go online and end it with around the same cost, so pick your poison.

Value: A

After a few weeks with Assault, as with any pre-workout supplement, I needed a bit more to maintain that pumped up feeling. This can be expected, so I wasn’t upset when the effects wore of, but hoped to find a pre-workout that was consistently effective for the entire cycle.

Duration: B+

Overall, my feeling on Assault is that it is in the top tier of the supplement arsenal on the market today. I would recommend it to the lifter who has gotten tired of the usual suspects and is looking for something new.

Overall Score: A
